23-24 Boys basketball team

The Anselmo-Merna 23-24 boys basketball team finished their season with a record of 7-17. We asked Head Coach Troy Gilligan some wrap up questions about the boys season and these were his thoughts. Our first question was, “Overall how do you think the season went?” He said that,

“I thought the season went well. We started off good against Paxton and then lost a few games we would have liked to have back but the boys could not have finished much better than they did and I am proud of them for how hard they worked.”

The Journalism team had also asked him what his favorite memory from the season was. His response didn’t shock anyone, knowing that the team they had played during sub district finals was a good team and everyone in the Coyote Community had wanted an upset. He stated,

“I think my favorite memory this season would have to be when we beat Sandhills-Thedford in the sub-district finals game. We had a very good outcome, which led us to play Shelton during our district finals game.”

The last question we asked Mr. Gilligan was asking for his biggest accomplishment as a coach. He had told us, “

My biggest accomplishment as a coach was helping the boys make it to a district final.”

With all odds against the Coyote Basketball team, they finished their season playing the number one seed, Shelton. Though they were seated sixteenth, they pulled through with a strong score of 72-52 and impressed themselves, coaches, and community.
