The MNAC tournament this year was very successful as a team, where the Coyotes brought the team championship home again. There were also a few school records that were broken. I got a chance to catch up with the three seniors who accomplished those records to see how
Caden Coufal, weighs in at 157 pounds. On January 30, 2024 Caden broke the school record for fastest pin at 9.0 seconds. This record was previously held by 2023 graduate, Sid Miller. Caden said that in preparation for his match he talked to Tyce Porter, who also broke a school record that day. Caden also mentioned that he knew he had broken the record right then and there. He described how he was extremely excited to be a record holder. Caden also said that it was an amazing experience breaking the record at the MNAC Conference meet. Caden’s final placing at MNAC was 3rd place.
Tyce Porter broke the school record for career takedowns. Tyce broke this record at the MNAC Conference wrestling meet held in Dunning, Nebraska. Tyce told me that didn’t know he had broken the record at that moment. When asked how he felt after finding out, he said he felt accomplished. In preparation for his match, Tyce warmed-up and got ready as usual. Tyce in the 165 weight class this year. His current takedown count is at 241 with many more to go! Tyce ended up 2nd in his weight class.
Tayte Thornton is the final A-M wrestler I covered. Tayte got his 100th career win at the MNAC meet. Tayte reported that he knew that his match was a big one. He also told me that he didn’t want to do anything different, and wanted this match to be like any other one. With that being said, Tayte warmed up like normal. After his match, the Anselmo-Merna crowd went wild, holding up signs that had the number 100 printed on them. Tayte explained how he was really happy and excited following the match. Tayte finished the meet as the MNAC Champion at 215 pounds.
The Anselmo-Merna wrestling team has had an amazing season so far. As the season is beginning to wind down, the boys wrestling team will be competing in Weeping Water on February 9th and 10th. The girls team will be competing in Broken Bow on February 9th. Good luck to all of our wrestlers.
